Ross pulled the red area rug from another room and gave it a new home
under the dining-room table, which has a pair of leaves that pull out
and click into place to seat an additional four to eight guests. A cop-
per sculpture by Martha Sturdy brings an organic strength to the room
while the Venetian glass Donghia chandelier pulls it all together "like a
little piece of jewelry," says Ross.

The homeowners commis-
sioned this 23-square-inch
Otto Duecker painting,
titled Eggs, Blueberries
and Butter, through
Birmingham's Robert Kidd
Gallery for their 23rd wed-
ding anniversary. The paint-
ed note reads, "l love you.'
The powder room feels like an extension of the living and dining rooms,
with a little extra glamour. The crescent-shaped Baker demilune van-
ity is topped with a hammered copper bowl. The clean edges of the
modern faucet contain the exuberance of the exquisite sconces, which
Ross repurposed from the master bath. Designed to look like a rich,
textural fabric, the wallcovering is actually practical vinyl from Romo
at the Michigan Design Center. Mother of pearl frames the mirror, which
reflects a built-in bookcase in the main hallway.
