Blakeslee and his wife, Kim Blakeslee, Jerry
Blakeslee, Jimmy Blakeslee and his wife,
Melissa Blakeslee; brothers-in-law, Robert
Sabolo and John Sabolo.
He was the dear son-in-law of the late
Amelia Sabolo.
Interment was at Clover Hill Park

ETHEL STERN
PORTNER, 95, of

Detroit; Ashkelon, Israel;
Delray Beach, Fla.; and
Honolulu, Hawaii, died
Feb. 22, 2013.
She was raised in Caro,
Mich., and moved to
Portner
Detroit in the late 1930s,
where she married and raised her family.
She made aliyah with her husband and
moved to Israel in 1975, moved to Delray
Beach in 1994, then back to Detroit and
Honolulu for the last two and a half years.
Mrs. Portner was a lifetime member
of Pioneer Women and Hadassah and,
while living in Israel, was active in the
Association of Americans and Canadians.
She was also a mentor in Israel, teaching
English to high school students and was
a volunteer helping to settle Ethiopian
immigrants.
She is survived by her sons and
daughters-in-law, Dr. Leonard and Laurel
Portner of Honolulu, Arnold Portner of
Huntington Woods, and Dr. Bernard and
Rachel Portner of Honolulu; seven grand-
children and six great-grandchildren;
brother-in-law, Saul Gross of Livonia;
sister-in-law, Leonore Stern of Florida;
many nieces, nephews; great-nieces and
great-nephews; great-great-nieces and

great-great-nephews.
She was the beloved wife of the late
Samuel S. Portner; the dearest mother-in-
law of the late Suzanne Portner; the loving
sister of the late Florence Schlaff, the late
Beverly Fish, the late Shirley Gross and the
late Lewis Stern; the dear sister-in-law of
the late Robert Schlaff, the late Molly and
the late Irving Pitzak, the late Faye and the
late Joseph Soffen, and the late Harry and
the late Geri Portner; the devoted eldest
daughter of the late Joseph and the late
Rose Stern.
Contributions may be made to Temple
Emanuel, General Fund, 2550 Pali
Highway, Honolulu, Hawaii 96817-1486;
or to a charity of one's choice. Services and
interment were in Honolulu, Hawaii. This

ROSE W "BUPPEE"
ROSS, 87, of West

Bloomfield, died Feb. 18,
2013.

from where she retired as the assistant to
the superintendent. She received many
awards for articles she had written and

Mrs. Ross is survived by her devoted
and loving companion, Dr. Irvin Lefton;
daughter, Beverly and Dr. Steven
Zuckerman of West Bloomfield; brother
and sister-in-law, Dr. Leonard and
Maureen Wayne of Southfield; grand-
children, Dr. Adam Zuckerman and Dr.
Stephanie Zeskind, Erika Zuckerman,
Adrienne and Dan Meserve; great-
grandchildren, Samantha Rose, Bradley,
Ethan; other loving relatives and a world
of friends.
Mrs. Ross was the beloved wife of 54
years of the late Ephraim Ross; loving
mother of the late Don Ross.

C.A.N., 2111 Orchard Lake Road, Sylvan
Lake, MI 48320. Interment was held at
