Dedicated GM Executive, Mentor And Volunteer

G

eorge Fox, 74, of West
Bloomfield, died Feb. 10, 2013.
He lived the American Jewish
dream. He was born into a family of
humble means, but early on showed the
skill set that enabled him to rise from an
account clerk to the managing director
of Argonaut Realty for General Motors
Corp., from which he retired in 1996.
He managed a staff of real estate nego-
tiators and was responsible for General
Motors' real estate portfolio, which
included more than 400 million square
feet of property in 170 countries. He was
an expert negotiator and lived for making
deals on property for General Motors.
During his 34-year career with GM, he
oversaw many significant projects includ-
ing a groundbreaking urban development
called New Center Revitalization: 300
homes and apartments were purchased
and renovated to help stabilize a key
Detroit neighborhood. He also struc-
tured a lease for an entire tower of the
Renaissance Center for AC Delco to sup-
port Henry Ford II's original vision for

Band

BUNNY BAND, 61, of
Oak Park, died Feb. 14,
2013.
Bunny graduated
from Southfield High
School in 1969, attended
Ohio State University
and graduated from the
University of Michigan
with a degree in liberal

arts in 1973.
She was a personal shopper at Jacobson's
and Neiman Marcus, where she surpassed
every goal. She also was a sales associ-
ate at Kaftan Enterprises and recently
became a medical biller and coder for ENT
Consultants.
Family meant everything to Bunny, and
she was always the first family member to
arrive at every gathering.
Bunny will always be remembered for
her beautiful smile, sparkling blue eyes
and beautiful long blonde hair.
She is survived by her daughter, Casey
Marie Anbender; sisters and brothers-in-
law, Harriet and Norman Rotter of Bingham
Farms, and Judith and Richard Komer of
Bloomfield Hills; brother and sister-in-law,
Jeffrey Band and Meredith Weston-Band
of Royal Oak; nieces, nephews, other rela-
tives and friends. She is also survived by a
world of devoted friends especially Allen,
Marlene, Tilly and Mindy, and her two pre-
cious dogs, Reggie and Prudence.
Mrs. Band was the beloved wife of the
late Jeffrey Anbender; the adored daugh-
ter of the late Herman Band and the late
Dorothy Band Cooperman; the dear step-

that development. Ironically, 20 years
later, GM purchased and transformed
the complex into General Motors Global
Headquarters.
Mr. Fox's style was one of a kind. He
felt it was important for GM to give
back to communities by
supporting them with
capital investment and
jobs. He led the major
development of 3 million-
square-foot, state-of-
the-art assembly plants
in Zaragoza; Spain; St.
Louis, Mo.; Kansas City,
Kan.; Fort Wayne, Ind.;
Lake Orion, Mich., as well
as the Saturn Complex in
George Fox
Spring Hill, Tenn.
He also worked
closely and diligently with former Mayor
Coleman Young to develop the Poletown
Plant within the city limits of Detroit,
preserving critical jobs in the city. He
was instrumental in saving the century-
old Jewish cemetery, Beth Olam, on this

site by ensuring it was cleaned up and
landscaped. Today, this cemetery is still
located on the plant property and prop-
erly maintained.
These projects positioned GM's manu-
facturing portfolio for the future, provid-
ing many millions of square feet
of buildings and workplaces for
tens of thousands of people.
After retiring from GM, Mr.
Fox went on to his next career,
which was to develop Land
America's national corporate
real estate department.
The people that he employed
throughout his career were con-
sidered a second family to him.
He was a great leader and made
it clear that he would always
be there for his employees,
genuinely caring for everyone. He was
especially gifted in building teams and
passionate about supporting women in
their career advancement, which was not
a common practice in that era.
He was a dedicated mentor and a spe-

daughter of the late Martin Cooperman.

Cemetery. Contributions may be made to
