Kevin Browett Publisher / Executive Editor Chief Operating Officer ahorwitz®renmedia.us kbrowett@renmedia.us sure Israel to give into P.A. demands and to make territorial concessions without any decent reciprocity. He will very likely pressure Israel to not pre-emptively defend herself against the existential threat posed by the imminent acquisition of nuclear weapons by the Iranian regime. I can hear his words, "Don't worry, Bibi, we've got your back." Obama will smilingly pose for pic- tures with Netanyahu, but what you won't see is the knife he's sticking in Bibi's back. Rand Paul Unfairly Criticized In Editorial I was appalled that the Jewish News wrote such a negative editorial con- cerning Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Jan. 24 ("Senate's Rand Paul: A Poor Committee Pick," page 26). The editorial depicted him as an enemy of Israel. How dare he even think of reducing the amount of for- eign aid to Israel as well as reducing aid to other countries of the Middle East? This country is quickly becoming broke, like Western Europe. Half its citizens pay no income tax. Forty- eight million are on food stamps. Unless we focus on prosperity, not equality, Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid will bankrupt this once-great nation. Even worse, we have asked our "efficient" govern- ment to take over health care. How have Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac worked out? Nobody talks about better health care, just about equality of health care. Guess what? Everyone's taxes are going up. Yet, your editorial staff berates Rand Paul as a horrible enemy of Israel. You call his appointment to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee "shameless:' He should like to see gradual cuts to Israel mili- tary aid, which he pegged at $3 bil- lion a year, 74 percent of which must be spent in the U.S., meaning primar- ily on weapons. At least he called for cutting foreign assistance to potential enemies of Israel and America, such as Pakistan and Libya and Egypt, more swiftly. Perhaps your staff thinks that Rand Paul will run for the presidency in 2016. Remember how the Democratic Party depicted Mitt Romney as a felon, a murderer, a rich old white man and a dishonest capitalist? Actually, Bain Capital was one of the most successful examples of capital- ism, with an 80 percent success rate. How about more regarding the nomination of Chuck Hagel for sec- retary of defense? Through the years, he has made many negative criti- cisms of Israel. Or write about why our adminis- tration is giving Egypt $1.5 billion in aid along with 20 latest-version F-I6 fighter jets and 200 Abrams tanks? Who do you think they will be used against? President Morsi has depicted the Jews and Israelis as descendants of pigs and apes. Would it not be pru- dent to hold off until they get their house in order? Rand Paul is a supporter of Israel. There are certainly more urgent problems to editorialize about. Keith Farber Sales Director kfarber@renmedia.us Account Executives Ann G. For the last year, BBYO has part- nered with JSC to form and sup- port JSC clubs at 11 schools across Metropolitan Detroit and Ann Arbor so far, thanks to significant sup- port from the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit's Stephen H. Schulman Millennium Fund. This year's programming is devel- oped by JSC student leadership with the advice of a teacher from their school and BBYO's professional staff and has ranged from visits to the Holocaust Memorial Center to Chanukah parties. BBYO's partnership with JSC has not only helped fulfill BBYO's Mission (More Jewish Teens, More Meaningful Jewish Experiences) but has — more importantly — allowed teens who are otherwise unaffili- ated to form a connection with their Jewish peers and our Jewish com- munity. On behalf of the hundreds of teens that will be impacted by JSCs in southeastern Michigan this year, I thank the BBYO/JSC partnership. And thank you for highlighting this important, innovative and meaning- ful initiative. If anyone is interested in creating a JSC at their high school, public or private, contact me at (248) 432-5689 or eadelman@bbyo.org and we'll make it happen!
