he Voices of the Dream con-
cert and awards ceremony
Jan. 22 at the Gem Theatre
Downtown drew more than 450
people. It was organized by Spilling
the Honey Project, a philanthropic
initiative of Building Relationships
Inc., founded in 2012 to advance
public awareness of the Holocaust
and to promote the prevention of
genocide.
The MLK celebration featured
a speech by Clarence B. Jones, a
scholar-in-residence at the Martin
Luther King Jr. Research & Education
Institute at Stanford University who
collaborated with King on many of
his speeches, including the "I Have A
Dream" speech.
Also, the first Detroit Innovation
& Renewal Award was given to three
regional leaders who have worked to
find common ground among different
ethnic, racial and religious groups in
Metro Detroit.
The award was presented to Arthur

Horwitz, president of Renaissance
Media and publisher of the Detroit
Jewish News; Martin Manna, president
of the Chaldean American Chamber
of Commerce and co-publisher of
the Chaldean News; and Bankole
Thompson, senior editor of the

Michigan Chronicle.
Proceeds from the inaugural
Voices of the Dream Concert and
Awards Ceremony and events were
donated to the Martin Luther King
Jr. Research and Education Institute
at Stanford University and Defeat
the Label, a Michigan-based anti-
bullying campaign.
Another event is planned for
April 24 at the Maple Theater in
Bloomfield Township to benefit
Jewish Senior Life. A documen-
tary, including footage from the
concert and awards ceremony,
features people inspired by Yad
Vashem Holocaust survivor Eliezer
Ayalon. The film will also appear on
Detroit Public Television.
