metro >> around town Longtime Career Ann Arbor JCC salutes Noreen DeYoung for her work with community children. n Jan. 12, the Jewish Community Center of Greater Ann Arbor hon- ored Noreen DeYoung, director of child, youth and family program- ming, for her 25 years of service. During her tenure, DeYoung started as a preschool teacher and then rose to director of the Early Childhood Center (ECC), where she served from 1992-2012, until being promoted to her current position. January 31 • 2013 Emily Kahan, a former student, speaks about DeYoung. he healing quality of music moved center stage this month in a concert given for Holocaust survivors and families at Oak Park's Jewish Community Center. Presented by Jewish Senior Life, the concert drew more than 100 survivors and their guests to the cantorial and Broadway performances of Cantors Dan Gross from Adat Shalom Synagogue in Farmington Hills, Rachel Kalmowitz from Temple Beth El in Bloomfield Township and Penny Steyer of Temple Shir Shalom in West Bloomfield. Cliff Monear accompanied the three cantors on the piano. The annual concert is part of Cafe Europa, a joint effort of the JSEs Program for Holocaust Survivors and Families and the Jewish Community Center.
