Bloomfield, died Jan. 16, 2013.
He is survived by his chil-
dren, Susan and Danny Kaplan of
Farmington Hills, Iris McHugh of
Tampa, Fla., and Robert and Marcie
Patron of Hollywood, Fla.; grandchil-
dren, Jennifer Kaplan and Ronald
Applebaum, Julie and Michael

and Jake Bolton and Seth Bour; great-

He was the devoted son of the late

Charles and the late Anna Patron, the
late Byron Patron and the late Shirley
Patron.

He was the beloved husband of the
late Dorothy Sack.

MARVEL GALE SHAPIRO, 85, died
Dec. 13, 2012, in Sherman Oaks, Calif.
She spent all of her life, except for
the past two years, in the Detroit area
and was a kindergarten teacher for
more than 25 years in the Detroit
school system.
Mrs. Shapiro is survived by her hus-
band of 61 years, Maurice Shapiro; two
daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and
Richard Frank of Bethesda, Md., and
Ellen and Gregory Simon of Encino,
Calif.; grandchildren, Laura Frank,
Jonathan and Ana Luz Portillo Frank,
Michael Frank, Harlan Simon and
Nicholas Simon.

Sinai, Simi Valley, Calif.
WALTER M.
STARK, 93, of
Bloomfield Hills,
died Jan. 17, 2013.
Born in Munich,
Germany, he was
educated at Buxton
College in England,
Stark
at the University of
Munich and Wayne State University,
where he graduated with a B.S. in
chemistry.
Mr. Stark emigrated to the United
States at the age of 19 in 1938 and
came directly to Detroit. He worked
for 10 years at Ford Motor Company
as a researcher before starting his
own business as a consultant and
manufacturer's agent in reinforced
plastics, plastic tooling and printed
circuit board industries. Mr. Stark was
a lifelong member of the Engineering
Society of Detroit and American
Chemical Society and was elected to
the Plastics Pioneers Association of
America.
He was also extremely active in the
Detroit Jewish community, serving as
a religious school teacher, as president
of the Metro Detroit Federation of
Reform Synagogues and in interfaith
affairs, including the Roundtable of
Christians, Muslims & Jews and the
NCCJ, its successor organization.
Mr. Stark was an instrument-rated
pilot and a lifelong tennis player, win-
ning championships well into his 80s.
He retired from both tennis and busi-
ness at the age of 89. He was also a
founding member and past president
of Temple Emanu-El in Oak Park and
current member of Temple Beth El in
Bloomfield Hills.
Mr. Stark is survived by the love of
his life, his wife of 67 years, Margaret;
son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Robert
and Helen Stark of Connecticut;
daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara
Stark-Nemon and Dr. Barry Nemon of
Ann Arbor, Joanna Stark Abramson
and Jay Abramson of West Bloomfield,
