Hwy., Farmington Hills, MI 48334. Interment took place in California. Arrangements by Hebrew Memorial Chapel. HARRIET ORNSTEIN, a beloved wife, mother and grand- mother, died Jan. 18, 2013, at age 70. Mrs. Ornstein, a Southfield resident, Ornstein instilled in her chil- dren a love of Judaism and a strong moral compass. A longtime member of Congregation Shaarey Zedek and active in a variety of Jewish causes, she worked for many years as a sec- retary and receptionist, most recently at Easter Seals Michigan. She exemplified resilience. Mugged and pushed to the pavement weeks before her son's wedding in 2002, she rebounded and walked her son down the aisle. She sought to stay active after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. After being struck by a car and suffering a closed-head injury in 2010, she per- severed through extensive rehabilita- tion and learned to walk, socialize and lead a normal life. Mrs. Ornstein was an only child, a devoted daughter to her parents, who emigrated from Poland before the Holocaust. She graduated from Mumford High School in Detroit and attended Wayne State University. She will be remembered for her uninhibited manner of dispensing advice, her humor and her deep con- cern for others. Whether telling her children to wear their coats outside or her husband to take his pills, she had many ideas and wasn't afraid to share them. In recent years, her proudest achievement was to be a bubbie and delight in seeing her out- of-town grandchildren. Mrs. Ornstein is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Alexander; her children, Charles (Shari) and Deborah; her grandchil- dren, Miles and Jude; sister-in-law, Pauline Woll; nieces, nephews and many friends.
