frontlines DETROIT SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA Musical Homage To The D Conc e rt PRESENTED BY WRCJ 90.9 FM Allee Willis is looking for Detroiters to be a part of new video. T here is no question that Detroit has produced some famous musical artists in past decades, and Allee Willis, who grew up in Detroit during what she calls "a magi- cal time is at the top of that list. Willis, 66, has written and produced some of the most iconic songs of our time including eternal mega hits like Earth, Wind & Fire's "September" and "Boogie Wonderland:' the Pointer Sisters' "Neutron Dance the theme song to TV's Friends, "I'll Be There for You," and the Pet Shop Boys/Dusty Springfield duet "What Have I Done to Deserve This:' She also co-authored the music/ lyrics for the Broadway smash hit, The Color Purple. Her records have sold more than 50 million units. Born to Jewish immigrant parents, the Mumford High graduate remembers how incredible it was to hang out on the lawn outside Hitsville U.S.A. listening to the Motown legends record inside or drive around the city in a '62 Chevy Bel Air with the radio blasting to the music that is still a special part of her soul. Those early years have created an indelible bond between her and Detroit's people, places and spirit, she says. Now, the Grammy, Emmy, Tony and Webby award-winning and nominated artist is ramping up her Detroit love to another level with a fresh musical hom- age called "The D," Detroit's newest unof- ficial/official theme song. The city itself isn't going to be the only star of "The D:' Willis has put a call out to all Detroiters on her Allee Willis website, alleewillis. corn/WeSingTheD, inviting anyone willing and able to come and show their love by singing along, playing, clapping, snapping their fingers or doing "The D" dance. "Detroit is one of the most soulful places on Earth, and 'The Big D' is a fantastic way for me to recognize its greatness. It's a place brimming with his- tory, resilience and a very special energy that can't be found anywhere else. This project is also designed to make every Detroiter a star, and I can't tell you how thrilling that is for me!" she says. Willis plans to record and assemble all of the elements into a master music video. It's going to be the biggest and most soulful sing-along the world has JN CONTENTS BACH'S BRANDENBURG CONCERTO NO.3 Tito Munoz, conductor Gabriel Cabezas, cello Stravinsky Dumbarton Oaks Haydn Cello Concerto No. -1 Bach Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 Tchaikovsky Serenade for Strings WEST BLOOMFIELD TWP.
