hefs have until Feb. 8 to apply to be named "Top
Chef Detroit" at the third annual Detroit Harmonie
International Experience, which takes place Saturday,
March 23, at the Virgil H. Carr Arts League of Michigan
located in Downtown Detroit's Paradise Valley. How? By taking a
creative spin on the Detroit classic Coney Island dish.
Each challenger will be assigned a specific region of the world and
required to incorporate ingredients and flavors from that region into
their recipes. To apply, visit: www.detroitharmonie.com/ie2013/apply .
Applications close Feb. 8 and finalists will be announced Feb. 25.
The Top Chef, determined by a panel of judges, will receive $7,500,
and another chef will earn $2,500 and the People's Choice Award,
determined by the event attendees.
The International Experience is Detroit Harmonie's signature event
celebrating the diversity of Metro Detroit through live entertainment,
food and music. The evening will begin at 7 p.m. with a reception for
supporters of the organization while the main event will take place
from 8-11:30 p.m.
Last year's International Experience drew an audience of more than
600 artists, entrepreneurs, government leaders, business professionals
and community builders — from varying backgrounds — all with a
shared and vested interest in helping to create a more durable city of
Detroit.
"The International Experience was conceived of as an opportunity
to change that dynamic and bring people together around things we
can all appreciate — music, food and a shared love of Detroit," said
Jordan Wolfe, Detroit Harmonie co-founder and partner in Evidence-
Based Literacy Instruction
Added Marlowe Stoudamire, Detroit Harmonie board member
and project manager at Henry Ford Health System: "The Top Chef
Detroit Challenge affords us the opportunity to showcase some of
the incredible culinary talent in the city, and to bring people together
around an appreciation of a creative food culture."
