KAPLAN, 77, of
Farmington Hills,
died Jan. 3, 2013.
Born and raised
in Peeksville, N.Y.,
he attended Buffalo
State University and
Kaplan
received a bachelor's
degree in elemen-
tary education. He later obtained his
master's degree in education from
Columbia and his doctorate from the
University of Rochester.
His family and teaching were his
two biggest passions. He served as an
outstanding professor at the University
of Florida before joining the College of
Education at Wayne State University in
1973. He was considered a world-wide
leader in the area of curriculum design
and had spoken around the world.
Even at the end, he viewed death as
a teachable moment. His body was
donated to the Wayne State University
Medical School in hopes that future
doctors could learn from him.
Dr. Kaplan is survived by his son
and daughter-in-law, Brian and
Carolyn Kaplan; daughter, Sheri
Kaplan; grandchildren, Scott, Nicole,
Austin, Erik; great-grandchildren; and
many friends.
Dr. Kaplan was the beloved husband
of the late Evelyn Kaplan.

JEROME
KORNHEISER, 89,
of West Bloomfield,
died Jan. 7, 2013.
He was a well-
respected dentist
who practiced nearly
60 years. He retired
Kornheiser
at 84 only because
he broke his femur
and could no longer
stand for long hours. He was known
for his expertise in the investment
world and had belonged to numerous
investment groups. He tracked the
stock market on his computer, keeping
daily records of his portfolio.
Fishing was his passion. He had a
boat on Lake St. Clair for more than
60 years and until the past year went
fishing every Wednesday and Saturday,
weather permitting. The local fishing
guides used to call him to find out
where the best fishing spot was.
He had a compassion for young chil-
dren, disabled individuals and seniors.
Dr. Kornheiser is survived by his
daughter, Gwen Silverstein; son and
daughter-in-law, Kenneth Kornheiser
and Vicki Simmons-Kornheiser; sister
and brother-in-law, Rhoda Shapiro
and Ralph Perl; grandchildren, Karee
and Michael Strome, Stacey and Fred
Lusky; great-grandchildren, Melissa
and Jacob Strome, Jordyn and Taylor
Lusky; sister-in-law, Gladys "Gaby"
Davis; many nieces, nephews, other
family members and friends.
He was the husband of the late
Mildred Kornheiser for almost 65
years.

ISRAEL "UNCLE IZZIE"
KUCYKOWICZ, 87, passed away
peacefully on Jan. 14, 2013.
He grew up in Israel. During the
struggle for independence, Izzie
helped smuggle much needed arma-
ments to military units. He later
moved to the United States, where he
became a citizen in 1966.
Mr. Kucykowicz is survived by his
niece, Marlene (Steve) Myers; neph-
ews, Dr. Barry (Rochelle) Meyer, and
Jeffrey Meyer; many loving great-niec-
es and great-nephews; sister-in-law,
Rosalyn Meyer.
He was the brother of the late
Harvey Meyer and the late Rachel Kay.
Contributions may be made to
a charity of one's choice. Services
and interment were held at Hebrew
Memorial Park. Arrangements by
Hebrew Memorial Chapel.
EDITH MARLOW, 80, of Farmington,
died Jan. 6, 2013.
She is survived her brother and sis-
ter-in-law, Seymour and Joyce Cheresh
Blustein; brothers-in-law, Abe Ingber,
Arthur Greenwald; sister-in-law, Rose
Sagas; many loving nieces, nephews,
other loving family members and
friends.
Mrs. Marlow was the beloved wife of
the late Harry Marlow; sister of the late
Molly Ingber, the late Donald Blustein,
the late Lou Blustein and the late Jean
Greenwald.
Contributions may be made to Yad
Ezra or to a charity of one's choice.
Interment took place at the Adat
Shalom Memorial Park Cemetery in
Livonia. Arrangements by Dorfman
Chapel.
