Party With Meaning
Teen shares her bat mitzvah party
with children at Friendship Circle.
W
hen it was time for
Hannah Wolfe, 13, of West
Bloomfield to plan her
bat mitzvah, she carefully considered
what she wanted her party to be and
where it should be held. With numer-
ous choices of all sorts, Hannah was
determined that her party have special
meaning to her, her family and her
friends.
That was when Hannah decided
on Friendship Circle. She has been a
Friendship Circle volunteer since 2011.
Her brothers also volunteer there.
Because Hannah is very passionate
about her volunteering, where bet-
ter to celebrate her bat mitzvah then
with the children with special needs of
Friendship Circle? She also wanted to
introduce her friends to volunteering
opportunities at Friendship Circle. So,
she organized a carnival for the chil-
dren of Friendship Circle for her bat
mitzvah celebration. Her bat mitzvah
was Dec. 15 at Temple Israel in West
Bloomfield.
More than 40 children with special
needs were invited to the Dec. 16
party in Friendship Circle's Weinberg
Village.
Her friends were paired, one on one,
with a child with special needs, while
the extras worked the carnival booths.
Friendship Circle families were over-
whelmed and happy that their children
were invited to a bat mitzvah party,
something that they are often excluded
from by their peers. And, in this case,
the party tailored the activities so each
and every child, of any ability, could
participate and have fun.
Not only were the children with
special needs thrilled to partake, but
Hannah's friends were also able to
truly understand just why Hannah is
so passionate about volunteering.
After 6 p.m., Hannah and her
friends went upstairs to the Elkus Gym
to continue celebrating her bat mitz-
vah. After an icebreaker, they enjoyed
dinner, did competitive team-building
games and played dodge ball.
The party was truly a win-win for
everyone.
