LAURENCE
SHERMAN, died Dec.

26, 2012, of lung can-
cer.
Born in Everett,
Mass., he later attended
Boston University. As
a consultant to urban

planning, he was a noted civil rights and
housing activist, developing Boston's
Rent Control law, a model for other cit-
ies.
After moving to Michigan in 1985,
he worked at American Income Life
Insurance and Union Labor Life
Insurance. He remained active in politi-
cal issues, serving as president of the
AFL-CIO's Union Label Committee for
Macomb, Wayne and Oakland counties.
He also served as mentor for Beaumont's
Kidney Transplant Program.
He will always be kept in our hearts.
Mr. Sherman is survived by his wife,
Linda; son, Scott, studying piano at MSU
Music College; sister and brother-in-law,
Barbara and Arnold Barron of Canton,
Mass.; sister-in-law and brother-in law,
Gayle and Jonathan Armytage of Aspen,
Colo., and Syndey, Australia; his niece,
Meredith Barron of Boston.
A memorial service will be held at
Temple Beth El in Bloomfield Township
on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at 2 p.m.
Contributions may be made to the
National Kidney Foundation or Jewish
Hospice & Chaplaincy Network of
Michigan.

THAV, 68, of West

Mr. Thav is survived
by his wife of 44 years,

and Gennifer Thav of West Bloomfield;

and Gail and Henry Sandweiss; mother-
in-law, Eleanor Schwartz; many nieces,
nephews and cousins.
He was the loving brother of the late
Jack Thav; the devoted son of the late
Harry and the late Florence Esther Thav;
the dear son-in-law of the late William
Schwartz.
Interment was at Clover Hill Park
Cemetery. Contributions may be made
