Mentor a Youth at JFS in West Bloomfield (6555 W. Maple Road). The event is free to the community and will begin at 7 p.m. January is National Mentoring Month, and it is a great time of year to highlight mentoring as a valuable volunteer opportunity that allows an individual to make a significant impact in a child's life. The JFS Make a Difference in the New Year ... Mentor a Youth event will help com- munity members to learn all about mentoring as a great way to volunteer their time while having a large impact on a child's life. Mentor Connection is a non- sectarian program of JFS that matches caring adult mentors with Oakland County youth who can benefit from additional support. Yad Ezra Announces Purim Pasta Shake-Up Berkley-based kosher food pantry Yad Ezra is encouraging synagogues, schools and organizations who offer a Megillah reading for Purim to ask attendees to bring boxes of pasta to shake as a gragger each time Haman's name is mentioned during the ser- vice. After the holiday, the pasta will be donated to Yad Ezra for distribu- tion to the food pantry's 1,400 client families. In addition to the proteins, canned and fresh fruits and veg- etables, cereals, toiletries, household cleaning items and other staples pro- vided by Yad Ezra, the food pantry currently gives out 2,000 pounds of pasta every month. Purim, a holiday known for giv- ing gifts for the poor ("Matanot L'evyonim") begins Sunday, Feb. 24. Synagogues and organizations from all over the community are planning to participate. Yad Ezra is also offering the sale of Purim Tribute available for mailing. A Purim tribute package includes six cards and plain envelopes for $36.
