Winter Wonderland

Chanukah event draws crowds at Orchard Mall.

0

rchard Mall was transformed into a Chanukah Wonderland from
Dec. 9-12. Co-sponsored by Sara and Morris Tugman Bais Chabad
Torah Center and the mall, the celebration included a 13-foot dreidel
moon bounce, a hands-on display of how to make olive oil as it was done in the
Temple era and holiday crafts.
On display was artwork submitted by local children for the annual IN
Chanukah art competition.
The highlight event, sponsored by Say-On Drugs, featured children from the
Bais Chabad Drama Club performing Chanukah Lights, the Musical. Also, Jewish
music was played by the Kids Klez Band of Michigan. Rena and Dov Kresch,
Holocaust survivors and members of the Israeli Defense Forces during the
Israeli War of Independence, lit the menorah. Hot soup, lakes and doughnuts
were enjoyed by all. More than 1,000 people came over the four days.
"Our goal is to teach the young Jewish generation to be modern-day
Maccabees in the sense of being proud, excited and passionate about their
Jewish identity and heritage said Rabbi Shneur Silberberg of Bais Chabad.
"When a young Jewish boy or girl finds fun Jewish expression in the center of
a mall, outside of the typical synagogue or Hebrew school setting, I believe it
accomplishes just that:'
