As the clock ticks
toward a new year,
a look back at
2012.

ossibly 2012 will be remem-
bered as a year of horrific
gun violence that included
a long and divisive presidential
election, the fiscal cliff battle, a bar-
rage of rockets over Israel, U.N. rec-
ognition of the Palestinians — and
the Mayan Apocalypse that never
happened.
However, Metro Detroit's Jewish
community has had a lot to cel-
ebrate this year: anniversaries, new
schools and businesses, and some
new beginnings. It's also seen a lot

that has shocked or divided the
community.
A year's end is a time to reflect
on lessons learned, what's been
done and what's been left undone.
It's also a time to look to the future,
celebrate accomplishments and
express gratitude for all that we
have as a community.
