BBG girls learn benefits of positive thinking and affirmations. Meredith Berlin Teen2Teen Writer B BYO has changed my life drasti- cally and has opened so many new doors and experiences for me during high school. One of these opportunities came Nov. 14 when I attended a B-Fit class, which was funded through a grant from the Jewish Woman's Foundation of Metropolitan Detroit. The class was held at the Inner Door Center in Royal Oak, which is an eating disorder prevention and treatment center. A small group of middle school and high school girls, we participated in a workshop centered on healthy eating, a positive body image and feeling good about yourself. We started with each participant picking an affirmation card. We then went around the circle and each read our card and explained how we felt about it. Reading a positive affirmation can really turn your day around if you are having a bad day. We had a very deep conversation as a group about eating healthy and keep- ing a healthy body image in your head. We talked about loving yourself and just feeling very good about yourself on a daily basis. Negative energy is never a good thing to have. Something that was brought up was to be positive about things. Something I have started doing recent- ly is reading a positive affirmation every morning before I go to school. It really helps get me in a better mood for school and makes me feel good about myself. These little things you can do to make you feel better about yourself make all the difference sometimes. During the class, we all got to do a very relaxing yoga session. Doing yoga after a long day at school was so much fun and relieved tons of unwanted stress in Teens do yoga during the B-Fit class. my body. I really enjoyed the experience, and it was something I would love to do again. I felt really good about myself after tak- ing this class. It taught me that I have to always tell myself positive things and that being negative is not the answer. Overall, this being my third B-Fit class, I think that they are so much fun and CareMinderso very beneficial. Being a teen, it is hard to always be positive. These kinds of things teach you the skills to be able to say posi- tive things to yourself and about yourself. Remember to always remain positive! ❑ Meredith Berlin, 15, is president of Gittleman BBG. She is a sophomore at Berkley High School.
