Planting A Seed
Marvin Danto, 95, of Bloomfield Hills, who died Jan. 24, and his family's
foundation donated $1 million in February to Hebrew Free Loan to establish
the Marvin I. Danto Small Business Loan Program, which will allow Hebrew
Free Loan to make larger-than-usual loans of up to $100,000 for Jewish
entrepreneurs to open or expand their businesses. The loans will be given
out over five years.

Jewish COO At Ford
Mark Fields became the first Jewish person to, in
effect, run Ford Motor Co., the 109-year-old inter-
national automaker with 164,000 employees, when
he became chief operating officer on Dec. 1. He'll
also be just a step away from the title of Ford chief
executive officer, making him one of the highest-
ranking Jewish executives in the global automotive
business.

Council of American Jewish Museums
Meets In Detroit
The Council of American Jewish Museums held its
annual conference amid the diversity of Detroit's
cultural landmarks Feb. 26-28, bringing some
100 members from across the country to tour
local museums and participate in discussions
about "Place and Purpose: Jewish Museums and
Community Renewal:' The exhibit "Empty Chairs:'
an installation by Linda Soberman, was on view
at the JCC in West Bloomfield during the CAJM
conference.

Craig Is Getting Ready

New Assistant Conductor At DSO
Teddy Abrams, 24, was named assistant conductor of the
Detroit Symphony Orchestra in March, bringing a youth-
ful presence to the DSO.
"Our world of music is changing, and the way people
interact with orchestras is changing:' Abrams said. "Young
musicians are in a wonderful position because we have the
opportunity and responsibility to make music an impor-
tant part of people's lives and national and international
culture:'

MSU's Eli and Edythe
Broad Art Museum Opens
The Eli and Edythe Broad Art
Museum at Michigan State
University opened Nov. 10 in
East Lansing. The museum,
approximately 46,000 square
feet in size, features a facade of
pleated stainless steel and glass.

Seventy percent of the space will
be designated for displays of
contemporary art, new media, photography and works on paper. The Broads,
who live in Los Angeles, are longtime supporters of the university. In 2007,
the couple announced a $26 million gift to create the facility.
