JCRC hosts media luncheon with Israel consul general.
n Dec. 6, a group of more than 50 media stakeholders gained a frank assess-
ment of the realities facing Israel in light of the recent crisis in Gaza and the
Palestinians' changed status at the United Nations from Roey Gilad, Israel's
new Consul General to the Midwest.
The program combined JCRC's core missions of Israel advocacy and media rela-
tions. The group included publishers and editorial editors, general managers, anchors,
reporters, news directors and producers from all of the area's print, television and
radio media outlets. The Consul General's remarks provided them with an insider's
view and essential background for their future coverage of Israel that is not available
to them elsewhere.
The annual media luncheon, which brings Israel's story to the media through Israeli
dignitaries and journalists, is part of JCRC's ongoing efforts to help area journalists
understand Israel and the situation in the Middle East. It also reinforces JCRC's role as
the media relations agency of the Detroit Jewish community.
The program was made possible through the generous support of former JCRC offi-
cer Linda Finkel and her husband, Bob.

event draws many families.
M
ore than 100 people once again packed Conrad
Social Hall for Temple Kol Ami's annual
Shabbanukah service, a special evening sched-
uled on the Shabbat that falls during Chanukah. The
evening included a short, lively Shabbat service in
which Rabbis Norm Roman and Arianna Silverman and
Cantorial Soloist Tiffany Green led everybody in prayer
and song, followed by a festive Chanukah dinner at the
West Bloomfield synagogue.
The highly anticipated and well-attended event is part
of Kol Ami's goal to create numerous fun and meaning-
ful opportunities to engage its youth in both Jewish and
synagogue life.
