Ronelle Grier Contributing Writer p am Migliore, owner of Franklin Auto Service and BP Gasoline, believes a service station should be true to its name. That is why every customer is greeted by a friendly attendant who pumps gas, washes windshields, checks oil and tires, and delivers a free cup of hot coffee between the hours of 7-11 a.m. Sometimes Migliore will be the one pumping the gas and bringing the cof- fee; she knows many of the customers and enjoys providing service with a personal touch. Located in downtown Franklin Village between 13 and 14 Mile roads, Franklin Auto Service is one of two service locations owned by Migliore and her brother, Darrell Marx of West Bloomfield. She runs the Franklin loca- tion while Marx runs Darrell's Firestone Tire and Auto Repair in downtown Farmington. The siblings have been partners since the early 1990s, when they purchased several stations from their late father, Iry Marx, who owned and operated businesses throughout Metro Detroit. While Marx worked for his father while he was growing up, Migliore joined the business after she started having children. "The hours were very flexible; I could come and go as I needed," said Migliore, who lives in Farmington Hills. When she discovered how much she enjoyed the business, she became more involved and decided to make it her life's work. "I loved working with my family, and I loved servicing the community:' she said. The station, which is as quaint as the town that surrounds it, adjoins another local landmark: the Franklin-Bingham Farms Fire Department. Migliore shares a friendly relationship with the fire- fighters and staff members. The Marxes are the third family to own Franklin Auto Service, which has inhabited the same downtown Franklin Village location for more than four decades. "Lots of our customers are old-timers who have been around longer than we have said Migliore. "It's a tight-knit community" Migliore is involved in the communi- ties that touch her life, both in business and in the Jewish community. As a local promotional committee member of Main Street, a national orga- nization dedicated to the preservation of historic towns, Migliore takes charge of the annual Chili Cook-off held every March. Neighborhood walkers and cyclists can often be found at the station, stop- ping to use the bathroom or get a cold drink. When a customer celebrated his 86th birthday, Migliore hosted a party at the Franklin Village Tea Room, with several local business owners and employees in attendance. Migliore is a member of Temple Israel, where she studied for and cel- ebrated an adult bat mitzvah. She has two sons, Matt, a former firefighter/paramedic now a student at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and Steven, an attorney at Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP, who lives in West Bloomfield with his wife, Jessica, and their two children.
