H

oward Waxer bowled his third
300 game earlier this month.
And his second since suf-
fering a heart attack and undergoing
quadruple-bypass surgery 41/2 years ago.
Perfect game No.
3 was rolled Dec. 3
at Country Lanes in
Farmington Hills in
the Brotherhood-
Eddie Jacobson B'nai
B'rith League.
It came in Waxer's
Howard Waxer first game of the
night. The 195 aver-
age bowler didn't want to reveal the
scores of his next two games.
"I couldn't buy a strike in those
games," he said.
He bought a new bowling ball about
two months ago. In his first game using
the 15-pound Ebonite Innovate at
Country Lanes, he rolled the 300.
"I felt the lane conditions were right
for the ball, so I went with it:' he said.
"The weather was cold. That keeps oil
in place on lanes longer:'
It was Waxer's second perfect game at
Country Lanes. The first one was Dec.
16, 2002, also in the Brotherhood-Eddie
Jacobson League.
The right-hander also had a 300
game Nov. 20, 2009, in the Westside
Merchants League at Airway Lanes
in Waterford, just 21 months after his
heart attack and surgery.
Waxer said he had just one lucky
strike in his latest 300. It came in the
second frame.
"The ball hit high in the pocket, but
all the pins went down," he said. "On
my last ball, well, that was as good as I
could throw it. I had all the confidence
in the world at that point:'
Was he nervous before he threw the
final ball?
"No:' he said. "I didn't get nervous,
the adrenalin didn't start flowing, and I
didn't get emotional until after I threw
it. You have to stay with your routine,
and stay focused until the game is over:'
Waxer said past experience is a big
help as a 300 game grows closer.
"Everyone is watching you, and all
the noise in the building stops when

you get to the 10th frame he said. "You
have to adjust to that, literally block out
the silence, if that makes sense. The
noise picks up again after you throw
your ball and everyone starts yelling
and cheering:'
Waxer, 64, a Farmington Hills resi-
dent, has been bowling competitively
since he was a teen and he's a longtime
B'nai B'rith bowler. He's in his second
stint as president of the Metropolitan
Detroit B'nai B'rith Bowling
Association.
He's bowled three times in the
Maccabiah Games representing the U.S.
He competed in the World Maccabiah
Games in Israel in 2001 and 2005 and
the Pan American Maccabiah Games in
Chile in 2003.
When he's not bowling, Waxer
devotes his time and effort to his
Southfield-based Parties with Class
business.

ments and named the Farmington Hills

ceremony will be held April 21 at the
Suffolk Y Jewish Community Center in
Commack.
An attorney who has been hon-
ored for his public service, Bernstein
