Chanukah Helpers

Volunteers prepare holiday packages for seniors in non-Jewish facilities.

N

early 300 adults and children gathered at
Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Southfield
on Sunday, Dec. 2, to volunteer at the Jewish
Federation's Women's Department's Tikkun Olam Volunteers
Chanukah Packages Program, in partnership with Jewish
Senior Life's Chaplaincy Program.
At the event, 450 Chanukah gift bags were packed and
delivered to Jewish seniors living in predominantly non-Jew-
ish facilities around the community. Program co-chairs Sheri

Rotenberg and Jo-Anne Nosan were thrilled with the turnout.
"I was overwhelmed with the outpouring of volunteers,
from the Boy Scout group to the many children and adults"
Rotenberg said. "The room was packed!"
Nosan reflected on the meaning that this project brings to
the seniors who receive the bags. "It was incredibly gratifying
to see the faces of the seniors light up when we walked in the
room" she said. "It was clear that it meant a lot to them that
we were there"
