As many of us deal with aging parents
or our own special circumstances, this
is a reminder about a program that
has played an important role in our
community since 1973 and will be cel-
ebrating its 40th anniversary in 2013.
Kosher Meals on Wheels (KMOW)
is a not-for-profit program that pro-
vides two nutritious kosher meals
(lunch and dinner) five days a week
to those in our community who are
unable to provide for themselves or
who have no one to assist them with
meal preparation. Meals are prepared
and delivered from the kitchen of
Morrison Senior Living, located in the
Jewish Senior Life Prentis Apartments
in Oak Park. The kitchen is under the
supervision of the VAAD of Detroit.
KMOW is provided by the National
Council of Jewish Women, Greater
Detroit Section.
Additional funding is provided by
Area Agency on Aging 1-B through
the Office of Services to the Aging and
through the Federal Older Americans
Act in compliance with Title V of the
Civil Rights Act of 1964. The DeRoy
Testamentary Foundation also provides
support as do donors from the commu-
nity at large. Jewish Family Service pro-
vides the intake and casework services.
I continue to be extremely
impressed with the commitment and
enthusiasm of KMOW volunteers who
pack and deliver the meals. Some have
been involved for more than 35 years.
Those needing more information
about receiving meals should contact
Jewish Family Service at (248) 592-2313.

Since Gov. Rick Snyder was elected in
2010, he has often stated that right-to-
work legislation would not be part of
his plans for Michigan. He expressed
that a right-to-work agenda would be
too divisive.
However, in a sudden move late last
week, Snyder urged the Republican-
dominated state House and Senate to
fast-track a union-busting right-to-
work bill during a lame-duck session
of the legislature. Gov. Snyder's dra-
matic shift on this most critical eco-
nomic issue demonstrates his commit-
ment to further dismantling workers'
rights, as well as the middle class.
While Gov. Snyder and Republican
legislators try to pass off right-to-work
as a benefit to Michigan's workers,
it is anything but that. According
to the Economic Policy Institute,
workers who live in right-to-work
states, including Florida and Nevada,
experience higher unemployment,
earn wages that are lower by $1,500
per year, and have more difficulty
in obtaining pensions and health
coverage. This means more pain for
Michigan's middle class and greater
rewards for CEOs.
"Michigan, my Michigan" — while
many of your citizens were being
lulled into a false sense of security by
a seemingly unassuming, corporate
"nerd:' he betrayed you. Michiganders
need to take constructive action to
defeat Gov. Snyder and his Republican
legislature in 2014.

See This Year's
Chanukah Videos

This year's crop of Chanukah videos
has something for everyone. Novice
cooks can find videos teaching them
how to make traditional latkes. Those
who want to find out more history
behind the holiday can find videos
featuring learned teachers.
Yet, the majority of videos are
musical, from hot a cappella choirs to
little kids trying to do gangsta rap to
Chanukah songs.
Israeli Jacob Richman is a fountain
of Jewish information. Each year
he compiles a list of new Chanukah
videos. Some of the best: StandFour's
"Eight Nights-Chanukkah Mashup,"
Yeshiva Boys Choir's "Daddy Come
Home:' What's Up Band's "Pass It On,
Chanukah 2012," Six 13's "Haneirot
Halalu" (with videos of fans singing

along), Aish's "Racing Home" (with a
rollerblader in Jerusalem), Technion's
"Rube Goldberg Machine" that lights
a menorah and Matisyahu's "Happy
Hanukkah" (with proceeds from
downloads benefiting Superstorm
Sandy relief). Look for Richman's list

A few he missed this year are the
Fountain Heads' "I Got a Feeling" and
Pella Productions' powerful "8 Nights
Of Hanukkah A Capella Mashup."
Enjoy. Happy Chanukah!
