He was the only 1- survivor of his tank Goldstein crew when his tank c. 1978 was blown up. The previous owner of Henry's Auto Care, he also owned several gas stations and the Woodcrest Mobile Home Park. IRVING "AVI" GOODMAN, 79, of Morgantown, W.Va., a professor emeri- tus of psychology at West Virginia University, died Nov. 24, 2012. He led a rich, full life and touched so many people — whether they were students, colleagues, neighbors, friends or family. He will be missed. Iry grew up in Detroit. He received his bachelor's degree in psychology from Wayne State University. He served briefly in the Navy as a hospital corpsman and received his Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Rochester. He came to Morgantown in 1966, where he served as a member of the WVU Psychology Department for 35 years before his retirement in 2001. He made sustained contributions to the department, the university and the pro- fession of psychology during his career. He almost single-handedly promoted the study of the biological basis of behav- ior at WVU through his research and teaching. His outstanding teaching was recognized by the WVU Mortar Board, Women's Honorary Society. At WVU, Iry gave much service through his tireless work on the Animal Care Committee and in the founda- tion of the Northern West Virginia Neuroscience Society Chapter. He always remained a dear and thoughtful col- league in the Department of Psychology. Iry had a love of art, film, nature, trav- el, other cultures and politics. Following his retirement, he devoted much of his talent to working with the Appalachian Lifelong Learners. He worked very hard to obtain a $1 million endowment from the Osher Foundation, establishing the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at WVU. Iry was a loving partner and supported his wife of 52 years in her endeavors in the arts. He was an amazing father and grandfather, offering much wisdom to his children, even in their adult years. Dr. Goodman is survived by his wife, Sharon; children, Eric (Beth Priaulx) of Arlington, Va.; Rachel (Mark Braidman) of Wilmette, Ill.; Jonathan (Betsy Evans) of Seattle, Wash.; grandchildren, Wil, Max, Eli; sister, Helen Hulber of Sacramento, Calif.
