Detroit) said, "While the vote was not
unexpected, I am disheartened and
believe that this was a very sad day for
the peace process. We knew from the
beginning that this was an uphill battle,
but AJC continues to speak with nations
around the globe to persuade them, at
the very least, to demand the P.A. return
to the negotiating table. Direct talks
with Israel are the only way to reach sus-
tainable peace.
"I do believe that the U.N.'s recogni-
tion of Palestine as a non-member
observer state is mostly a symbolic one.
It does not bring the Palestinian people
any closer to achieving statehood. True
peace can only be obtained through

To Light Public Menorah
As the third night of Chanukah begins
on Monday, Dec. 10, the Lubavitch
Yeshiva students are lighting a
giant, 9-foot menorah on the lawn
of the Southfield City Hall at 26000
Evergreen Road beginning at 6 p.m.
Music and doughnuts will be enjoyed
after the lighting ceremony.
The event is organized by the
Lubavitch Yeshivah-International
School for Chabad Leadership located
at 15151 10 Mile Road in Oak Park.
Young men, ages 13-19, come from
10 countries and 17 states to receive
an education immersed in Chabad-
Lubavitch teachings.
Jewish Agency Trains
Russian-Speaking Leaders
The Jewish Agency for Israel and the
Israeli government trained more than
200 young, Russian-speaking Jewish
leaders to fight the delegitimization
of Israel during a conference held
recently in Maastricht, Holland. At the
conference, Jews from 12 countries
across Europe learned public diplo-
macy skills in the age of new media.

"This leaves the Palestinian Prime
Minister with only one main option to
showcase his power — wielding a diplo-
matic card at the U.N. and taking a one-
sided action that goes directly against
the Oslo Accords, essentially sticking
the proverbial stake into what was an
already weakly upheld agreement.
"Israel's reaction should be one-sided
as well; he said. Erez suggests that
Israel annex the areas where more than
350,000 Israelis live.
"The international community will
not be happy about it, but Israel did
something similar with the Golan
Heights and parts of Jerusalem when it
annexed them, despite the world's disap-
proval."
