November 29 • 2012 On Oct. 22, the Monday night Chumash shir (Torah study group), hosted by Leibel Wiener of north Oak Park, cel- ebrated its 25th anniversary. He recalled, "During Succos 1987, a Hakel year [a year of gathering], the Lubavitcher Rebbe spoke about how can we promote Jewish unity. He said by learning Torah, the Jewish people are united throughout the world — and requested that there should be estab- lished groups of learning Torah for men, women and children. "I decided to ask Rabbi Hershel Zaklos to teach a class on the weekly Torah portion at our home on Monday nights. He agreed, and we invited friends and neighbors. That was 25 years ago! Rabbi Zaklos' steadfast com- mitment continues to inspire, encour- age and uplift all his students both in the learning of Torah and its daily relevance:' New members are welcome, Wiener said.
