Maple Rd.West Bloomfield, MI 48322 B obituaries Obituaries JN Searching For Survivors Liberated April 13, 1945 On April 7, 1945, a train was released with 2,500 Jewish prisoners from the German concentration camp Bergen- Belsen, including some 700 children. The train was liberated on April 13, 1945, by American soldiers from the 30th Infantry Division of the Ninth U.S. Army near Magdeburg, Germany, at the town Farsleben. The survivors were from Hungary, Poland, the Netherlands, Greece and other places. Two American soldiers were among the liberators of this train and now live in Florida. One of them was a tank commander and the other was an infantry liaison officer who helped lead the survivors to safety and provided them with food and medical care. Today, there are about 220 sur- vivors who were children then who are scattered throughout the world. Survivors who would like to contact their liberators can email Frank Towers at towersfw@ windstream.net.
