born stand-up comedian
Mike Young is giving back
to the city that helped
launch his entertainment career.
Young, who has performed with
comedy veterans like Bob Saget, Dave
Chappelle and Joe Rogan, and often
returns home when on "The Young
American Comedy Tour," is using the
sale of his new DVD documentary to
support the Detroit nonprofit group
Summer in the City.
Ten percent of profits from the sale
of Young's new DVD documentary
titled Things I Wish I Didn't Know,
will go to Summer in the City, an
organization led by Red Thread
columnist Ben Falik, that focuses
on beautifying neglected areas of
Detroit neighborhoods.
"Mike is hilarious and generous. I
would encourage everyone to buy his
DVD, even if they don't have a DVD
player," Falik said. "And, of course,
come see the proceeds in action this
summer. You might even get to paint
a mural with Mike."
Summer in the City brings a
diverse group of volunteers together
to create expertly crafted murals that
represent the heart and soul of the

"The arts have always been very
important to me as an entertainer,
so I want to give back to an
organization that helps others in
Detroit explore their passion for the
arts," said Young. "Detroit has a rich
history that needs to be preserved,
and Summer in the City is doing just
that with its murals."
Things I Wish I Didn't Know is
a documentary of Young's life as
a comedian and comes with a CD
featuring a full standup set. In
addition to his success as a comic,
Young has written and directed for
television and film. Young is currently
directing a feature film titled My
Man is a Loser, starring John Stamos,
Michael Rappaport and Brian Callen,
which is scheduled to be released
next year.
"Regardless of where I travel and
what I do, Detroit is where my heart
is. It's where my first jokes were
written, and it's where I get the
inspiration for most of my characters
when I write," said Young.
