1. Cook Holiday Food — Allow
your children to help you prepare
food in the safest area of the kitchen
or the dining room. Select recipes
that can be easily followed like cook-
ies or desserts. Incorporate creative
holiday toppings to your recipes and
play festive music while they mix.
2. Play Outdoors — Whether
the family is on vacation or stay-
ing at home for the holidays, allow
your children to play outdoors. For
example, playing in the snow is a
great way for them to exert energy,
to exercise and to express their cre-
ativity by building a snowman.

3. Create Holiday Decorations —
Ask your children to help you cre-
ate dreidel garlands or color paper
menorahs to hang around the house
before hosting a holiday party. Begin
your project by searching and down-
loading online stencils of dreidels
and menorahs.

4. Encourage Volunteering —
Giving to others is always important.
Bring your children along with you
to visit a homeless shelter or help
deliver food to the poor. These expe-
riences help them feel good about
giving back to others.
5. Visit Local Attractions —
Have your children asked you to take
them to the ballpark or to visit a
children's museum? Take advantage
of your local attractions, which often
offer great lessons for children to
learn outside of the classroom.
6. Invite Their Friends Over —
Play dates help children develop
their social skills. Invite their friends
over for any of the activities men-
tioned above. Make sure that they
are always under close supervision.
By implementing these easy-to-
follow holiday tips, parents will be
able to create lasting memories with
their children.

LsIeDIZIPZE:
uring the holidays, parents
have a busier agenda and
their responsibilities increase
exponentially. Because children are
on holiday vacation from school, par-
ents often seek ideas to entertain kids
during this time of the year.
To help make the holidays a
memorable and enjoyable experi-
ence for parents and children, Rachel
Charlupski, founder of the Babysitting
Company, has created a list of her
"Top 6 Ways to Keep Children
Entertained during the Holidays':
Charlupski is originally from
Detroit, where she began her career
in the babysitting industry after
graduating from West Bloomfield
High School. She founded her com-
pany in 2004.
Parents should remember that
children love to feel helpful around
the house, she says. But the holidays
are also a great opportunity for chil-
dren to venture outdoors and appre-
ciate their environment, play with
friends or visit their favorite local
attractions. Although parents may
feel overwhelmed by the new daily
routine that accompanies the holiday
season, here are some ways to keep
children entertained:
