Southfield, died
Nov. 1, 2012.
He is survived by
his wife of 57 years,
Lola Pines; daugh-
ter and son-in-law,
Esther and Izzy Tal
Pines
of Southfield; son
and daughter-in-law,
Dr. Jack and Leslie
Pines of Florida;
grandchildren, Dr.
Donna Tal, Jonathan
Pines and Jarrod
Pines.
Mr. Pines lost
his mother and father, Anchil and
Houdis Pines, and five siblings in
the Holocaust. He was also the dear
brother-in-law of the late Dora Mintz.
Interment was at Adat Shalom
Memorial Park Cemetery. Donations

CAROLYN STEIN
ROSENSTEIN, 75,

of Baltimore, Md.,
died Oct. 27, 2012.
She was born in
1937 in Jersey City,
N.J., to Hilda and
I. Joseph Stein. She
Rosenstein
grew up in Teaneck,
N.J., and gradu-
ated from Teaneck High School. She
went on to Boston University, where
she earned a B.S. of education and
met her husband, Beryl; they mar-
ried in 1958. The couple moved to
Baltimore in 1961, when Beryl started
his residency at the Johns Hopkins
Hospital. In addition to raising her
two children, Mrs. Rosenstein worked
at McDonogh School for 20 years,
where she was head of the middle
school reading program. At the same
time, she earned her master of sci-
ence degree from Johns Hopkins
University.
Mrs. Rosenstein was an active
member of the Johns Hopkins
Hospital Women's Board, a member
of the Suburban Club and Beth El
Congregation. She was a competitive
tennis player, winning a number of
doubles tournaments in Maryland;
at one time, she was ranked 10th
in the state. She loved going to the
theater in New York, attending the
Baltimore Symphony and visiting
museums around the world. She was
an avid traveler, visiting 52 countries,
including every continent except for
Antarctica.

Mrs. Rosenstein is survived by her
loving husband of 54 years, Beryl;
daughter, Susan, and son-in-law,
Larry Slabotsky of Bloomfield Hills;
son, Jonathan, and daughter-in-law,
Lisa Rosenstein of Rye, N.Y.; grand-
children, Zachary, Ariel and Anne
Slabotsky, and Matthew, Amanda,
Benjamin and Samantha Rosenstein;
many loving cousins and friends.

JULIE R. "BIG
JULIE" SANDLER,

formerly of
Bloomfield Hills,
died Oct. 29, 2012,
at his home in Boca
Raton, Fla. He was
92 .
Sandler
He was born on
Nov. 5, 1919, to
Reuben and Bertha Sandler. Raised
in Detroit and LA, he attended both
Central and Fairfax high schools. He
also attended Wayne State University
prior to joining the Army, volunteer-
ing for World War II. He spent his
career in the linen supply and uni-
form industry as second-generation
owner of Reliable Linen Service and
later as founder and owner of Central
Quality Linen and Uniform Service,
American Linen and then Amertex.
He was a longtime member of
Temple Beth El, the Birmingham
Temple, the Detroit Tennis Club and
Knollwood Country Club. He was
also a Mason and a Shriner.
Mr. Sandler is survived by his
best friend and wife of 64 years,
Iris; daughters, Pat Welch (George
Blackstone), Julie Sandler, Robin
Weintraub (Ira) and Ginny Berg
(Howie); grandchildren, Brooke
Welch (James Riedy), Andrew Welch
(Alicia Joseph) and Zack Wish (Ella);
great-grandson, Mason Wish; sis-
ter, Edith Sandler; brother, Herbert
Sandler; many adoring nieces, neph-
ews and cousins; loving caretakers,
Kiki and Jacquline.
Mr. Sandler was preceded in
death by his parents and his brother
Maurice "Morrie" Sandler.
Contributions may be made to
Southern Poverty Law Center or a
charity of one's choice. A memorial
service will be held on Nov. 11 at 11
a.m. at the Gardens on Military Trail,
Boca Raton, Fla.
