Zoup! Chicken broth taste test
Jackie Headapohl
Managing Editor
T
he Jewish News received
an interesting offer from
Zoup!, which is right
across the street from our offices
on Northwestern in Southfield.
Would we be interested in par-
ticipating in a
chicken broth
taste test?
We never say
no to food, so
we invited Eric
Ersher, founder
,,,.. and CEO of
Zoup!, into our
Eric Ersher,
office, where he
founder and
and a colleague
CEO of Zoup
presented the
staff with three
different brands of chicken broth:
Zoup's and two competitors.
The chicken broth is a new addi-
tion to Zoup's roster. Ersher said
he set out with the goal of creating
a chicken broth good enough to
drink. He succeeded.
About 10 of us participated in
the taste test, and all 10 chose
Zoup! as the clear winner.
"Great flavor," "smells good" and
"I could sip this in the morning
instead of hot tea" were some of the
comments of JN staffers.
"Blech," was the general consen-
sus on the two competitor brands.
"We use better-tasting ingredi-
ents," said Ersher, who has hopes
that the chicken broth will break
into the retail hot beverage catego-
ry. "We're really proud of it."
For those reading labels, the
broth is 5 calories per half-cup and
contains 330 mg of sodium. Priced
at $5.99 per quart, the chicken
broth is available at Plum Market,
Busch's and Hiller's.
The staff at the IN gives the broth
two thumbs-up. IT
