He has been involved with Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, the Allied Jewish Campaign and the Jewish War Veterans. He also gives grants to Hillel Day School in Farmington Hills. In 1992, Steinberg met his second wife, whose name was also Shirley. "A friend of mine told me to call Shirley who not only owned the Hampton Hotel, but was also an antique dealer:' says Steinberg. "She wasn't in when I called, and know- ing how she loved antiques, I left her manager a message that Shirley should call me because I was a real antique myself!" Following their marriage, the Steinbergs lived in West Bloomfield for four years and then moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., in 1996. "We had a wonderful life in Arizona," says Steinberg, who built a beautiful home in the mountains. He belonged to a club of retired Army officers. He edited the club's paper and was on the condolence committee, visiting grieving families. He also belonged to a golfing group affectionately called the Miserable Old Bastards. After 15 years of marriage, Shirley passed away from bone marrow can- cer. In 2008, Steinberg moved back to an apartment in West Bloomfield to be with his family. "I love my kids," says Steinberg, who also has two granddaughters. "I'd rather be with my family any day than out with the boys. They mean so much to me." Steinberg also enjoys writing poetry and stories about his past experiences. He writes a newsletter every month that he sends out to approximately 100 people, family, friends and old Army buddies both here in Michigan and out-of state. "I also write about how a man should treat a woman," says Steinberg, who considers himself a true romanticist. "I have as much fun with a group of women as I do with a group of guys. I love women and they love me." Steinberg has been with his girl- friend, Rita, for the last four years. "Rita is nine years younger than me, but she acts young for her age," he says. "Every winter for a couple months or so, we go and stay at Rita's place in Florida on a golf course. We have a good time together. "I am the luckiest guy in the world!" he says. "Most of my friends are all gone. They are all looking up at the grass, but I am still looking down. Right now I'm ahead of the game." ❑ Eclectic American Cuisine FP- - eburcbtit's Bistro/Cigar Bar t, , The finest (Wagyu) Steaks and Seafood features on our Fall Menu Executive Chef Matt Barkach t • Hours: open daily for lunch & dinner, Thurs - Sat late night menu *State of the art ventilation system 113i5tro/Tigar 116 S.
