Kari Alterman, Howard Brown, Canadian Consul General Gitane De
Silva, Eli Saulson and Kara Newmark of the St. Louis AJC
AJC Leaders Learn
From Diplomats
On Oct. 4, 10 members of
AJC Detroit joined with other
Midwesterners for a day of diplo-
macy and advocacy in Chicago. This
was the third consecutive year that
AJC Detroit sent a strong delegation
to participate in the Midwest diplo-
matic marathon.
AJC Detroit president-elect
Howard Brown noted, "The dip-
lomatic marathon allowed me to
travel to Canada, Uruguay, Egypt and
France all in one day. The face-to-
face meetings with Consuls General
and their staff provided an amazing
forum for dialogue, advocacy and
diplomacy."
Vice-president Todd Mendel
added, "The AJC Midwest diplomatic
marathon is one of the most exciting
and effective international advocacy
efforts undertaken by the Jewish
communities of the Midwest. There
is a real sense we are accomplish-
ing something very valuable for the
Jewish people in the international
arena, instead of just bemoaning the
immense problems that face Israel
and Jewish communities around the
globe without taking any action."
Other Detroit participants
included AJC Detroit regional direc-
tor Kari Alterman, vice president
Alicia Chandler, officer Judy Kotzen,
board members Julian Greenebaum,
Eli Saulson and Sheri Schiff, and
AJC ACCESS Detroit board member
Jonathan Zadoff.
Other AJC regional offices par-
ticipating included Cincinnati,
Cleveland and St. Louis as well as
delegates from AJC Chicago.
