Fundraiser To Help
'Stomp Out Diabetes'
What are the ingredients for a special
evening? Try fine wines, good friends
and a great cause. If that sounds like
a perfect blend, then attend Stomp
Out Diabetes, a wine-tasting benefit
at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at the
Reserve at Big Rock in Birmingham.
(VIP reception begins at 6:30 p.m.)
The 6th annual Stomp Out Diabetes
event, presented by Meijer and Novo
Nordisk and chaired by Lori and Marc
Siegel and Lori and Maurice Pogoda,
aims to raise awareness and funds for
the American Diabetes Association.
Nearly 25.8 million children and
adults in the United States have dia-
betes, yet more than 6 million remain
undiagnosed. An additional 79 million
are at risk for developing diabetes.
Diabetes kills more people in the
United States than breast cancer and
AIDS combined, and it has no cure.
The VIP reception at 6:30 p.m.
will feature an opportunity to taste
rare, exclusive wines from Cana Wine
Distributors, Red Wagon Wine Shop
and Woodbury Wines LLC, while
savoring fine cuisine provided by the
Reserve at Big Rock. In addition to fab-
ulous wine samplings and great food,
guests can enjoy a silent auction and
entertainment provided by Motown
guitarist Dennis Coffey.
Glen McIntosh, dean of student
life and assistant vice president for
student affairs at Oakland University
in Rochester, is the evening's guest
speaker.
Event tickets start at $150 per per-
son, or $275 for the VIP Reception.
Tickets can be purchased at www.
diabetes.org/stompout or by calling
Nikki Ruddy at (888) 342-2383, ext.
6688 or nruddy@diabetes.org .
