Beth El's Rabbi Leo M.
Franklin Archives and the
Prentis Memorial Library hosted a
unique fundraiser, "Putting the Drive in
Detroit!'
Site of the event was the GM Heritage
Center in Sterling Heights. Normally not
open to the public, the center is home to
GM's private collection of antique, clas-
sic and prototype cars. Patrons enjoyed
dinner while strolling among GM's
prized cars and viewing a presentation
that highlighted the Jewish connection
to Detroit's automotive industry.
Proceeds from the event will benefit
the archives, a guardian of the history
of Temple Beth El and the surrounding
Jewish community for more than 30
years, and the library, celebrating 134
years of service to adults and children
throughout the Detroit area.
Steering Committee for the affair
was Patti Phillips of West Bloomfield,
John Kessler of Bloomfield Hills, and
Rae Monchnik and Evelyn Prince, both
of West Bloomfield. Jan Durecki is the
Franklin Archives archivist. Librarian
Eileen Polk heads the Prentis Memorial
Library.
