"..A judge who prides herself on ensuring accountability in criminal cases,
as well as carefully guarding tax dollars. She is the court's chief judge and
possesses not only a deep knowledge and understanding of the law, but
also an intimate familiarity with the court's administration."
--Endorsed, Detroit Free Press

n the two months since 18-year-
old Aly Raisman of Boston won
two golds and one bronze medal
in artistic gymnastics at the London
Olympics, she has been adored as
an all-American girl. She was on the
cover of Sports Illustrated and has
earned millions for her endorsements
with Ralph Lauren, Pandora Jewelry
and Poland Spring, among other com-
panies.
Among Israelis and Jews worldwide,
Raisman has won a special place in
their hearts as much for what she said
as for what she accomplished at the
Olympics. Following the medal cer-
emony after winning gold for her floor
exercise, done to the accompaniment
of the Israeli folk song "Hava Nagila,"
Raisman stated these words to report-
ers in a news conference that made her
a hero:
"The floor music wasn't intentional,
but having it played on the 40th anni-
versary [of the 1972 massacre] is spe-
cial, and winning the gold means a lot
to me. If there had been a moment's
silence, I would have supported it and
respected it!"
Raisman's words were in refer-
ence to the International Olympic
Committee's refusal to honor the 11
Israeli Olympians murdered at the
1972 Olympics with a moment of
silence at the opening ceremony of the
London Olympics.
"Aly is very proud and upfront
about being Jewish," said Rabbi Keith
Stern of Temple Beth Avodah of
Newton Center, Mass., who has known
Raisman since she was 3. "Nobody will

ever forget her message for genera-
tions to come. Aly showed how very
integrated her Jewish heritage is in
everything she does."
According to Stern, he and
Raisman's manager have been deluged
with thousands of requests for her
to speak at synagogues, Jewish day
schools and Jewish fundraising orga-
nizations across the country and Israel
since the Olympics, including many
Detroit-based Jewish organizations.
Raisman will be in Detroit Nov.
3, not to speak, but to perform as
part of the national Kellogg's Tour of
Champions at the Palace of Auburn
Hills. She and her USA teammates will
display the skills that won them gold at
the Olympics.
