ORT's Camp Hermelin event
brings camp fun back home.
S
'mores, arts and crafts, flag
football, basketball, dance,
bouncers and so much more
were offered at ORT Michigan's
Camp Hermelin event that took
place in September at the home of
Doreen Hermelin in Bingham Farms.
Created in 2008 and currently
ORT Michigan's only family fun-
draiser, Camp Hermelin featured
family fun activities run by local day
and overnight camps and activity-
based companies. Each brought staff
and supplies to run their respective
activity.
It was a great way for campers to
be reunited with their camp friends,
their favorite camp counselors and
directors. Kids were encouraged to
wear their favorite camp T-shirt or
sweatshirt to show support for the
camp they attend.
There also were separate camp

At 3 p.m. attendees gathered at
the flagpole where Doreen Hermelin
was presented with the "Hermelin
Cup" for her stewardship of ORT.
Camp Tamakwa was awarded Camp
Hermelin's first "Spirit Award" for
getting the most campers and alum-
ni to participate in the event.
This year's event attracted more
than 700 guests and raised more
than $45,000 for ORT, which is the
largest non-governmental educa-
tion organization in the world. Each
year, more than 300,000 students
in more than 60 countries are edu-
