Mosque Developers'
Requests Tabled
The West Bloomfield Township
Zoning Board of Appeals at its meet-
ing on Oct. 4 scheduled a site visit for
Oct. 16 at 5:15 p.m. to better under-
stand concerns of residents surround-
ing the former Eagle Elementary
School site.
Requests of the Islamic Cultural
Association (ICA) for local zoning
ordinance variances were unanimous-
ly tabled by the board, according to
the West Bloomfield Patch, which
reported that the board disregarded
two variance requests that were pro-
posed as alternatives to the develop-
ers' preferred requests.
The board did approve, by a 3-2
vote, new construction of paved areas
used for cars, and the larger of two
domes to be built at a height exceed-
ing the maximum allowed in the
township.
Residents in attendance expressed
concern that the size and scope of the
structure would be out of step with
the rest of the neighborhood.
The meeting continues at the site
visit next week.
