GRUSKIN, 81, of
Farmington Hills,
died Sept. 27, 2012.
He is survived by
his wife of 57 years,
Ellen Gruskin;

Gail and Steven Fisher of West
Bloomfield; son and daughter-in-law,
Michael A. and Dr. Laura Gruskin of
Franklin; grandchildren, Aaron
Fisher, Brian Fisher, Emily Fisher,
Eric Gruskin, Alex Gruskin, Nikolas
Gruskin, Jeffrey and Jenica
Gunsberg, and Lisa Gunsberg; sister,
Joan Volin of California; brother-in-

He is survived by

children, Jay and Ian Kohler. He is
also survived by many loving nieces,
nephews, cousins and friends.
Mr. Friedman was the cher-
ished brother of the late David I.
Friedman; the devoted son of the late
Isaac and the late Esther Friedman;
the loving brother-in-law of the late
Aaron Geselis; the dear son-in-law
of the late Joseph and the late Ida
Geselis.
Interment was at Hebrew
Memorial Park. Contributions may

BENJAMIN KAPLAN, 83, of
Madison Heights, died Sept. 10,
2012.
He is survived by his sons, Gad
Kaplan of Waterford, Dan Kaplan

of Arizona, and Allan Kaplan of
Livonia; sister and brother-in-

ARTHUR MEVIS,
84, of West
Bloomfield, died
Sept. 28, 2012
An Army veteran,
Mr. Mevis was a
pharmaceutical
representative in
Mevis
the 1960s. He then
owned a liquor
store in Detroit and eventually
became the owner of the Custard
Cone in West Bloomfield in the
Pine Lake Mall in the '70s and '80s.
He also worked at Harvard Row
Bakeries. A dedicated Goodfellow,
past master of the Perfection Lodge
of the Masons, he was also active
with MADD and was a volunteer
usher at the Detroit Symphony
Orchestra.
Mr. Mevis is survived by his wife
of 25 years, Rita Mevis of West
Bloomfield; children, Arlene and
Kurt Strevel of Roseville, Cheryl
Gumenick of Birmingham, and Lori
and Stuart Zack of Birmingham;
grandchildren, Haley Gumenick,
Ross Gumenick, Connor Zack and
Joshua Zack; sister-in-law, Edythe
Mevis; former wife, Sylvia Mevis.
Mr. Mevis was the cherished
brother of the late Marvin Mevis and
the late Wimpy Mevis.
Interment was at Machpelah
Cemetery. Contributions may be
