Silver Sponsors As the Chaldean-Jewish Building Community Initiative (BCI) moves through its third consecutive year of stimulating meaningful and durable relationships, we continue to be impressed, and humbled, by the breadth and depth of collaborations, many at the grassroots level, being initiated by interested and caring individuals. Built on a foundation of knowledge, respect and trust, and anchored by the reach and resources of the Chaldean News and the Detroit Jewish News, these collaborations are indicative of an ini- tiative that is maturing before our eyes — and yours. The recent 39th District State House of Representatives primary is serving as a stimulus for the development of an agenda of issues that both communi- ties, regardless of political affiliation, can rally around. The agenda may include economic development, job cre- ation, entrepreneurship, immigration and refugee status, educational quality and provision of services to needy seg- ments of the two communities. Under this conceptual umbrella, a group of younger Chaldean and Jewish Republicans, including 39th District primary competitors Klint Kesto and INSIDE Martin Manna Arthur Horwitz Co-Publisher Publisher Chaldean News Detroit Jewish News Bubba Urdan, is already mapping out ways to harness and refine collective strengths and stimulate election-day turnout. Experienced public servants from both parties have expressed interest in helping to shape a common agenda and mentor a new generation of candidates. Concurrently, recruitment for the unprecedented Chaldean-Jewish trip to Israel and the Holy Land (April 16-25, 2013) is accelerating, with deposits continuing to arrive every week. Not only will this trip, its itiner- ary, its guides and its accommodations be first rate, the experience of seeing this remarkable country through each other's eyes also will be memorable. While these are among the more vis- ible activities of the Initiative, we con- tinue to identify and showcase, through the pages of the Chaldean News and the Detroit Jewish News, the partnerships, collaborations and friendships that are creating more connective tissue ... in medicine, law, business, social action, education and the arts. We hope you enjoy this Building Community Initiative special section. We'll be back again in early December to share our progress with you and report on new endeavors that continue to model collaborative behavior for our communities and Southeast Michigan.
