s a multi-generational
member of anything, one
can't help but be proud
of an affiliation, so my inclusion at
Congregation Shaarey Zedek has
always been a point of pride for me.
Until recently, I never truly
appreciated how this rela-
tionship would evolve as I
became an independent,
integral part of this com-
munity. When I was asked
to be a part of the finale
celebration for CSZ's 150th,
I jumped at the chance
On Saturday, Oct. 27,
the synagogue's foyer and
social hall will be trans-
formed into a lavish party
with live music, great food
and signature cocktails. This event
marks not only a culmination of the
past 150 years, but also the start of the
next generation at CSZ. Having a say
in making this community mainstay
a vibrant, progressive and inclusive
place for the next
group of young
leaders was a
chance I couldn't
pass up, not to men-
tion that this ultimate
party was going to be one
for the ages.
Event Chair Suzi Terebelo could
not be more excited, noting "the
party is going to be absolutely
spectacular, but still affordable for
everyone." (With an all-inclusive
ticket price of $36, she's
right.) "We're so grateful to
.
our sponsors for making
that happen, among them
Star Trax, Display Group and
Gerych's."
The evening will be accompanied
by live music from two bands: Sean
Blackman and Wayne Gerard's Sin
Hielo as well as Your Generation Fifty
Amp Fuse.
This event marks a kickoff of a
trend already in motion at CSZ — one
of inclusivity and focus upon young
families, establishing a foundation for
the future. The committee has made
it clear that this is going to be a fun
party — a great way for members and

non-members (over 21) to get a little
dressed up and go out on a Saturday
night.
Milton Feldberg, a new board mem-
ber and the father of young children,
says, "I'm excited to see the creative
programming designed for
e, me and my friends. My kids
- like being at CSZ, too
they've met a lot of other
kids here — but this party
is a perfect excuse to hire a
babysitter and take my wife
for a different kind of date
night"
Feldberg, an avid
University of Michigan fan,
has arranged to have the
U-M football game broad-
cast that evening via satel-
lite.
Jeri Fishman, fellow board member,
added that generous underwriting
has provided for limited complimen-
tary tickets for those ages
21-30 — another effort to
reach out to a young
audience. Anyone
in this age bracket
who would like to take
advantage of this offer
may call the synagogue office
and reserve a ticket.
Up until this point, I had my
doubts, to be frank, about my sense
of belonging at Shaarey Zedek. I'm
24, living and working in downtown
Detroit. It seemed as if-I wasn't
exactly a "target audience" for this
traditional place. Seeing the
efforts in action to make
this ultimate party just
that — ultimate — I have
changed my mind. CSZ isn't
beyond me or behind me or anything
else. It's part of me; it's home.
This party is open to members and
non-members alike, for those who
have called this special place "home"
at one time or another. With that in
mind, and dancing shoes on my feet, I
can't wait to toast the next 150 years.
