CLARA SILBER, 98, of Southfield, died Sept. 21, 2012. After nearly a cen- tury of living, through the lean years of the Depression, working to help support her fam- Silber ily, meeting the love of her life and helping to build a successful wholesale business in Detroit with him, raising a family, watching with pride as children, grandchildren and great-grand- children filled her life with love and pur- pose, Clara Silber died peacefully. Clara Brodsky was born in 1914, in Worcester, Mass. Her family relocated to Detroit while she was still a child. As a young woman, Clara developed acu- men for numbers and business and soon became a bookkeeper while still in her late teens. Then she met a bandleader. The dashing Fred Silber and the beautiful Clara Brodsky made a striking pair — not just in the late 1930s, but for the next 65 years. They raised son, Dennis, and daughter, Sandra, and watched grandchildren and great-grandchildren bless their lives. Mrs. Silber remained active and vibrant well into her 90s, driving until she was 97 and was mentally sharp as ever up until her last day, when she decided after nearly a century of a beautiful life, to sleep. She did it her way. Mrs. Silber is survived by her daughter, Sandra Samson of Farmington Hills; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Debbie Silber of Boca Raton, Fla.; grandchildren, Sheri (David) Whiteman, Jodi (Ken) Korotkin, Tony Silber, Elana (Gaz) Green, Eric (Miranda) Samson; great-grandchildren, Ari, Rachel, Alex, Jessica, Natalie, Jamie and Julia.
