Judaism has traditionally championed
workers' rights.

• ..

From the first President of the AFL,
Samuel Gompers, through the years of
mass migration when American Jewry
was predominantly working class, to
the current President of the American
Federation of Teachers, Randi Weingarten,
we have played crucial roles protecting
working families. Jews from garment
workers to teachers to lawyers - have fought for workers to have a voice in their
workplace, resulting in fairer wages, safer working conditions and the ability of all
working people to provide for their families.

At its national plenum this past May in Detroit, the Jewish Council for Public Affairs
passed a resolution strongly supporting collective bargaining rights. As the resolution
reminds us: "Religious commandments in the Torah and Talmud relating to the
employment of workers are imbued with respect for labor rights."

Our parents and grandparents taught us to live our lives
according to these values. Lidor vador. It is why we
ask you to join us in voting YES on Proposal 2.

- Senator Carl Levin and Congressman Sandy Levin
