Bistro and Bar, at the former site of Club Bart's in fabu- lous Ferndale on the east side of Woodward just south of Nine Mile, offers up a decadent menu, live entertainment and a great selection of wine and cocktails. Hours of op- eration are Tuesday and Wednesday 4 p.m.-midnight; Thursday through Saturday 4 p.m.-2 a.m.; and Sunday 11 a.m.-11 p.m. John D's features an intimate and warm atmosphere put together by restaurant designer Ron Rae. The brick walls, ambient lighting, and black and brown tones throughout the venue lend to the trendy vibe that resonates throughout the city of Ferndale oh so well. John D's is owned by Eddie Farah, and when it comes to the business of hospitality, Farah is no stranger to the industry. He comes from a family of restaurateurs and is well acquainted with the intricate ins and outs of the bar/restaurant biz. Customers will find a mouthwater- ing menu of cleverly crafted cuisine and fine wine. Executive Chef Adis Celec has put together a menu that even the pickiest foodies can approve of. Everything on the menu is made from scratch including the mayon- naise. Menu selections include a savory duck confit, delicate coconut curry mussels, succulent lamb chops, a tempting vegetarian napoleon tower and many more items that will send your taste buds into a frenzy. Entrée prices range from $15-$29, sandwiches are $9 -$14, and soups and salads are $5 -$10. The Sunday brunch menu is another heavenly food experience. Some of the items available for your palate's pleasure include sweet and savory crepes, crab benedict, a French toast tower to die for that is made with banana rum, raisins, brown sugar, butter, mascarpone and chocolate. Other items include Craig talks T Politics, Craig & his guests have a braised pork belly, a duck and pig plate that is comprised of duck confit, bacon, egg and fingerling potatoes, a three-egg omelet and more. While you're experiencing brunch bliss you can imbibe on bot- tomless Bloody Marys or Mimosas for just $15. The dessert menu offers a luscious tiramisu and dessert sliders featur- ing ice cream in three different flavors: chocolate, vanilla and straw- berry. Wednesday is a great day for wine lovers to stop in to John D's for their Wine Down Wednesday special featuring half off bottles of wine and champagne. This is a great spot for a date, dinner with friends, or a girls or guys night out. Live entertainment creates a lounge-style atmosphere, with a mix of jazz, Latin, contem- porary, classic soul, R&B and world music. Past musical guests include Ben Sharkey, Mekam, the Kysia Trio and Ben Scott. Farah has created a hot nightlife destination by combining a great bar/restaurant atmosphere, fantas- tic food and live entertainment that is truly an enjoyable experience. Be sure to stop in soon.
