hen Rabbi Shneur
Silberberg visited the
Congregation Beth
Shalom Gan Shalom Early
Childhood Center on Sept. 12, he
brought with him a unique set of
teaching tools, including a life-size
stuffed ram with removable horns.
The young students learned how a
ram's horn is used to make a kosher
shofar from Silberberg, outreach
director at the Sara and Morris
Tugman Bais Chabad Torah Center

of West Bloomfield, sponsor of the
traveling version of the Sherrill
Berman Shofar Factory.
There was also a demonstration
for the students on crafting a usable
shofar.
"The rabbi brought a real horn
and proceeded to make a shofar by
sawing off the end of the horn then
drilling a large hole so it can be
blown," said Lauren Blitz, director
of the Oak Park-based Gan Shalom.
"[He] had us sand the shofar and
shine it up [and] presented it to the
Gan for us to keep and to remember
this experience."
