obituaries Honored Veteran, Caring Teacher D r. Alvin R. Goldman, 86, of West Bloomfield, died Sept. 11, 2012. Born in 1925 to Solomon and Lillian Goldman, Dr. Goldman went on to serve his country and the people of Michigan in various honorable capaci- ties. He graduated in 1944 from Central High School in Detroit and immediately found himself part of the 95th Infantry Division, 377 Battalion Regiment of the United States Army. The 95th became one of the most highly decorated units of World War II, with Dr. Goldman receiving numer- ous honors including the Purple Heart, Silver Star, Bronze Star and several per- sonal recognitions from Gen. George S. Patton for his bravery and actions dur- ing the 95th's march from France into Holland and, eventually, into Berlin, where they met the Russians as the war came to an end. Upon returning home, Dr. Goldman went on to Wayne State University, obtaining both his bachelor's and mas- BRYAN MARSHAL BEDNARSH, 37, of Charleston, S.C., died Sept. 9, 2012, from complications of Glycogen Storage Disease. He was born on Aug. 22, 1975, in Detroit, the son of Alan Bednarsh and Rita Schumer Bednarsh. He graduated from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, Calif., with a bachelor of arts degree in business communications. He was the owner and marketer of Advanced Medical Supplies in Charleston.
