Auto Event Aids
Beth El Library
See beautiful cars and discover little-
known facts about Detroit's automo-
tive history at "Putting the Drive
in Detroit" at the exclusive General
Motors Heritage Center in Sterling
Heights. The event, on Thursday, Oct.
4, will benefit the Prentis Memorial
Library and the Rabbi Leo M. Franklin
Archives of Temple Beth El in
Bloomfield Township.
Participants will have the chance to
view the collection of General Motors
antique, classic and prototype vehicles.
The story of the Jews who have
played a part in the automobile indus-
try, such as Max and Morris Grabowski
and Meyer Prentis, will be highlighted
throughout the exhibit.
The Prentis Memorial Library and
the Rabbi Leo M. Franklin Archives
supply information and produce lec-
tures and events for the public. The
library, named for GM treasurer Meyer
Prentis and his wife, Anna, is the old-
est Jewish library in Michigan, and the
archives houses collections that date to
the founding of Temple Beth El in 1850.
Tickets are $500 for patrons and
$125 for general admission.

Polish Righteous Gentiles
Honored In HMC. Exhibit
The Holocaust Memorial Center
Zekelman Family Campus is partner-
ing with the Consulate General of
the Republic of Poland in Chicago to
sponsor an exhibit honoring the Polish
Righteous Among the Nations, a group
of men and women who rescued Jews
from extermination by the Nazis.
The exhibit, on display at the HMC in
Farmington Hills through Oct. 7, tells
the story of a group of Polish gentiles
living in Nazi German-occupied Poland
during World War II who demonstrated
extraordinary courage by helping to
shelter and aid Jewish men, women and
children during the Holocaust.
The exhibit also documents the risks
involved in this endeavor as Polish citi-
zens were the only people in the Nazi
German-occupied Europe who, along
with their families, were summarily exe-
cuted if caught sheltering or aiding Jews.
Poland is the nation that has by far the
highest number of honorees from any
country awarded by the State of Israel
with the Righteous Among the Nations
medal. This exhibit is a tribute to the
rescuers, who, by saving a single life,
helped save entire generations that flour-
ish until this day.

eign policy and who the major Jewish
