n just three hours, a Sept. 9 program brought fun memories,
important High Holiday information and a huge amount of
unusual sounds to the ears of 600 participants.
True to its name, the Sherrill Berman Shofar Factory was
highlighted by a "make your own shofar" component. "That
evening there were sounds of shofar blasts ringing through the
streets," said Zeesy Silberberg of the Sara and Morris Tugman
Bais Chabad Torah Center in West Bloomfield, which spon-
sored the program along with the Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit and the Janice Charach Gallery and Shalom
Street, both of which were open for visits.

Guests also participated in apple dipping and making Jewish
Pride caps, visited an outdoor petting zoo and exotic shofar display,
played on moon bouncers and learned about bees from beekeeper
Joel Letvin. Scribe Rabbi Levi Kagan inscribed Hebrew names with
ink on parchment. Rabbi Shneur Silberberg, Torah Center outreach
director, with his wife, Zeesy, shared information on the shofar, and
Shalom Street's Rabbi Rob Morais gave a loud demonstration.
A traveling version of the Shofar Factory visited Akiva Hebrew
Day School in Southfield, Congregation Beth Shalom in Oak
Park, Hillel Day School of Metropolitan Detroit and Temple
Israel in West Bloomfield during the previous week.
Zeesy Silberberg said, "We were so thrilled that the shofar and
its cry for teshuvah (repentance) made its way into many Jewish
families' homes." 1
