Photo shot in Birmingham of Ari Giske, 61/2, and brother Eitan, 51/4, of
Farmington Hills

T

hey say a picture is worth a
thousand words ... This not
only holds true for Marla
Michele Must, 44, a portrait artist
from Birmingham, but the pictures she
takes also impart many emotions for
her subjects by building confidence in
young boys and girls, and empowering
their self esteem during the session.
Since opening Birmingham-based
Enchanted Photography by Marla
Michele Must, she has supported Yad
Ezra, ORT, Gilda's Club, Love Without
Boundaries in China, along with
Families With Children From China
of Metro Detroit. Marla's photographic
inspiration is her three children, Jake,
13, Ava Rose, 11, and Sasha Jade, 5.
Must's love of photography began at
age 13 when a family member gave her
a camera and taught her how to use it.
She quickly realized that she had an
innate ability to compose the world
around her with her eyes. Now, she is
living her dream as a professional por-
trait artist and photographer.
While photographing children, Must
noticed a repetitive theme arising,
especially with young girls.
"My young subjects will often
confide they are self-conscious or
something they've been told by other
kids about their appearance," she said.
"It's at that moment that I recognize I

Marla Michele Must

have been given an opening to plant
a seed of empowerment, either with a
few words or a sincere compliment. I
strive to replace their negative thought
with a positive and empowering one
instead!"
For that reason, Must created
"Empowered Portrait Sessions" for
children. After taking the portraits,
Must then puts together a custom slide
show. Canvas gallery wraps, mounted
enlargements, custom-framed portrait
art, standouts, float wraps and image
boxes are also available.
"Photography is fulfilling to me
because it allows me to apply my pas-
sion toward my greater life purpose
she said. ❑
