out the colors of the apples. The
test of this was quite fun. The same
apple came up with colors called
kalahari, California and plum. We
taste-tested apples and did apple art
as well."
At Congregation Shaarey Zedek in
Southfield, no matter how they have
to get them — there will be apples.
But unlike in past years, Rabbi
Aaron Starr, the school's director
of education and youth, said, "For
holiday snacks we have to buy the
packaged pre-cut slices:'
This time of year typically
means a visit to an area orchard for
apple picking by students at Akiva
Hebrew Day School in Southfield.
Even without the activity, the chil-
dren are able to support Michigan
farms again this year.
"We're going to the cider mill
at Plymouth Orchards, where the
kids will learn about bees, trees and
apples, watch the cider mill press
apples and visit the petting farm:'
said Lisa Parshan, director of the
school's Early Childhood Center.
"And, of course, they'll have kosher
donuts that we will bring with us
and fresh cider from the mill:'

Western Wall
Notes Cleared
The Western Wall was emptied
of layers of notes from its cracks
and crevices for the Jewish New
Year.
The notes were removed
Monday morning under the
supervision of the Rabbi of the
Western Wall, Rabbi Shmuel
Rabinovich, who ensures that
they will remain confidential.
They will be buried.
At the time of the removal, the
rabbi said a prayer asking God
to fulfill the requests contained
in the notes. The notes are
removed from the wall twice a
year, before Rosh Hashanah and
Passover. E
